Example 1 – Database of earlier assessment outcomes
On its website, an ENIC/NARIC office publishes a searchable database containing the individual credential evaluations made by the office as guidance for applicants, employers, educational institutions and others. The public database allows those interested to get an idea of the result which can be expected if they submit an application for assessment of a particular foreign qualification.
Each entry includes the following data:
- Qualification title
- Name, town and country of the issuing institution
- Year of completion
- Nominal length of the programme
- Assessment
- Any further details on the programme, access to further activities etc.
- Year of assessment
The database is regularly updated on the basis of the office’s internal database. As far as possible, the office only includes assessments that are in line with its current assessment standards.

Example 2 – What documents should be submitted by the applicant?
The list of required documents to be submitted by the applicant may depend on the purpose of recognition and on the country where the qualification was obtained. Required documents may include:
- copy of the qualification in the original language;
- sworn translation of the qualification (in case it is not in a widely spoken language);
- copy of the Diploma Supplement or similar information source;
- curriculum vitae;
- copy of ID card.
Example 3 – Reasons for the recognition decision
ENIC/NARIC office offering evaluation of foreign credentials maintains an overview of guidelines and standard phrases explaining the reasons for not granting full recognition, i.e. to be used when substantial differences have been found between the qualification assessed and the type of qualification that the applicant might have expected. The credential evaluators pick the appropriate phrases as a point of departure when editing the cover letter for an evaluation report. The reasons are related to the official assessment criteria as laid out in national regulations. The overview document serves to facilitate giving reasons and to ensure the consistency of case processing.
